LADAS MEETING - 9/05/01 - MINUTES Present - Jack Hoxley , Scott Main , Ann Clark, David Hill , Alan Paton , Ed Archer Neil Simpson, Malcolm Gair , Charlie Bulloch and Sandy Gilchrist Apologies - Alan Paton Review of Past Events Tam Ward's lecture had proved very enjoyable despite the fact that only 22 people had attended but the low attendance had been attributed to the fact that many people had been on holiday Forthcoming events 1. Monday's lecture by Dr Alex Morrison on Shipwrecks - arrangements were discussed. 2. Spring sale - Tolbooth booked, donations to be handed in on June 1st. Ed to pick up key. Time of meeting for setup to be 7.30 p.m. 3. Summer expedition - 16th June (leave 9.00 - 9.15 , then visit Selkirk Museum. After lunch - visit to Aikwood (Ed to talk about the battle of Philipshaugh). Then visit to be made to the Trimontium trust place at Melrose or Melrose Abbey. 4. It was proposed to make a visit to the site of the discovery of the font. 5. Archaeological Event to take place on Sunday September 16th - contacts to be made with Jimmy Hood / Karen Gillon and Lawrence Keppie. Talks / lectures discussed. Ed to contact both Lawrence Keppie and Tam Ward about doing lectures. 6. Conference of Independent Archaeologists - decided to urge participants to book up as a matter of urgency- early bird booking - £67. 7. Orkney - no further information except the boat from Invergordon would not be running . Ed to find out date of school holidays. Roles and Responsibilities 1. Ed - Newsletter - said that a new newsletter would be coming out during the summer. Ed asked to make sure that the notice about the plant sale was on the front page of the Gazette. Fieldwalking - Ann indicated that there would a possibility of fieldwalking up at the Teaths. Finds registration - Ed to contact SUAT once the plans were completed. Ed mentioned the work of the Clydesdale Museums' Forum and the A.G.M which had taken place on May 2nd. He spoke about the lecture on Kittochside by Elaine Edwards and the National Museums' audit talk by Kirsty Lingstadt. 2. No general update on Computer equipment. 3. David Hill suggested that it was best to wait till the autumn to continue with the bridge survey. 4. Ed handed over a cheque for £500 for the reistivity meter from the Jenny Gordon bequest. Ed to ask South Lanarkshire for money for a G.P.S equipment. This was followed with the financial statement... Financial Statement 1.
