LANARK AND DISTRICT ARCHEAOLOGICAL SOCIETY MEETING CLYDESDALE INN LANARK July 25, 2001. ATTENDING: I.Borthwick, D. Hill, S. Main, A. Clark APOLOGIES: E. Archer, C. Bulloch, S. Gilchrist, N. Simpson As there were only four present at this meeting it was decided to continue, but there would be no major decisions made with regard to forthcoming events or financial matters. PAST EVENTS The visit to the Borders in June was well attended and enjoyed by those present. FORTHCOMING EVENTS Scottish Archaeology Month Activities planned for this event include:- Walks: Paul Archibald, Lanark town walk Scott, short town walk (with script) Lectures: Tam Ward Gordon Maxwell Ed Archer Exhibition Display is underway, most details will be from the website. Also would like details on the Mill Survey from Jack. Scott will provide information on society library. Some activity for children Tasks for committee members Jack - Mills Project? Ed to send out invites C.I.A. Conference Ongoing, everyone attending should be organised by now. Orkney We will have to organise this soon or it will not happen. Are there any arrangements made? What is still to do? Cheese and Wine Ed has suggested to Ian that we could hold the above in the Museum to launch the stones found at Ravenstruther. The date 15Aug was suggested but a committee meeting is scheduled for this evening. This will be put on hold until a future meeting. FINANCES Bank £1850.75 Tam has cashed the cheque for the Burnt Mound Project The resistivity equipment quote is higher than expected (£750). We must confirm precisely what will we be provided with for this amount, what else will we would require? Scott raise fears that this equipment would not be useable without supervision under the term of the Valletta convention. Ian said that from his reading of the parliamentary answer this should not be a problem, although Scott was correct in law. We will discuss at a future meeting the need to upgrade the Society's insurance cover to meet with new legislation regarding Employers liability. OUTSTANDING ACTIONS & COMMENTS The Elphinstone Hotel is not available for the October meeting. This will now take place in Lanark. Malcolm, can you alert the speaker of the cahenge of venue? The joint meeting with the Dante Society will take place on 4Feb 2002.
