Minutes of LADAS committee meeting 12/09/01 in the Clydesdale Hotel Lanark Present - Ann Clark, Ed Archer, David Hill , Sandy Gilchrist, Neil Simpson, Scott Main, Ian Borthwick Apologies - Malcom Gair, Alan Paton Review of Past Events 1. Ed reported on the visit to the Cadzow Castle excavations 2. Ed also mentioned the visit to Neilston and Lochwinnoch Forthcoming Events SAM Event Ed to contact Ian Veitch to get the keys for the SAM event. Paul to be asked to download the website. Ed to get the projector and projection table for the A.G.M Ed to send a letter to E.I.S asking for a grant. Boards to be taken to the C.I.A conference in Nottingham. AGM Ed to do a general talk on archaeological activities for the AGM. Ian to Present financial statement in Scott's absence. Jack pointed out that projected slides were no far enough up the screen. Orkney Trip Alan had requested names so that he could book. Still some uncertainties over number, but decision taken that the Society would cover any overspend to ensure that the trip could proceed at the advertised rate. Roles and Responsibilities Newsletter - Scott congratulated Ed on the quality of the newsletter. Fieldwalking - Ed had no report. Sorting out of fieldwalking finds to be done next Tuesday. Website - Ed to send to Ian articles from the newsletter Finds Processing - Ian reported that Steven Scott had been over to see about the bones. Ed had arranged to see Bob Will about the pottery. SLMF - Ed mentioned that 10 members of the committee had been invited to the opening of the Treasures in Store exhibition on 30th November at 7.30 p.m in the Low Parks Museum. Computing Equipment - Scott had received a letter from the lottery saying that they were satisfied with the Society's use of lottery money. Scott mentioned the ALVO seminar called "Cracking the Egg ". Bridge survey - David Hill to start up his bridge survey again. Financial statement £1580 - 66. Scott then talked about the arrangements for the presentation of the accounts to the AGM. Money had been dispatched for the resistivity meter deposit Ian Morrison's library No further report as Alan not present. Ian explained to Sandy the background to the story of the library and express his view that a separate Trust show be considered for administering the collection. General discussion ensued thereafter. Actions Discussion re Christmas Party. Decided to go for £8 Dinner at Wetherspoons (£3 deposit) Scott spoke about his vision for the library. Matters arising 1. Fife Churches visit - 6th April - Sandy 2. Half bottle plus card for Charlie 3. Ed talked about the aerial survey 4. Ed referred to the Pont Conference in Edinburgh on Saturday September 29th 5. Ian discussed the formation of the committee at the A.G.M 6. Ian pointed out that he had suggested that donations to the Library should be recorded, but had not volunteered to do this himself. A.O.C.B 1. Lecture Programmes done. 2. Sandy - church survey ongoing 3. Questions asked about how to attract new members and membership fee level. 4. Decided to give £100 for the conference delegates. 5. Ed to buy farm publications for library. 6. Ed to investigate EDM training 7. Graveyard conference mentioned for 12th November 8. Ian, Scott and Ann expressed interest in Conference on declaration of Arbroath on October 20th.
