LANARK & DISTRICT ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING Lanark Library at 7.30pm on Monday September 17 2001 Chairperson, Ian Borthwick welcomed everyone to the meeting. Apologies for Absence Terri Paton, Charlie Bulloch, Scott Main. Minute of AGM September 11 2000 Approved by Malcolm Gair, seconded by Neil Simpson Annual Report ------------- Secretary's Report Ed talked about how Foot and Mouth had put a stop to all field walking this year, but this had given opportunities to investigate alternative activities. Stones believed to be from St Mary Well Bent Church were investigated as was a building in The Wide Close, and a garden in The Castlegate where quite a few pieces of pottery have been found are currently under investigation. We hope to have the Resistivity Meter by November. This should provide an exciting new element to our investigations. Chairperson's Report Ian reported that he had enjoyed a busy year as Chairman, and reminded us of some of the outings and events of the past year, which included the very successful Covenanter Conference which was held at New Lanark. We enjoyed a very varied lecture programme including a members' night in December. Alan Paton arranged a visit to the Fire Brigade Museum in Edinburgh and all enjoyed this. Our New Year trip to Fife was quite well attended, and we had a summer trip to The Borders. Sandy's trip to Fife had to be cancelled in April due to the Outbreak of FMD, but this will go on in April 2002. The event we held in The Tolbooth for Scottish Archaeology Month appeared to create some interest, with 50 plus people visiting it. Ian invited members to take part in the member's night if they had anything that they wished to inform the members about, and he offered support if it was required. The trip to Orkney still has places available, and names are required now to secure the Ferry booking Members were also invited to put their names down for a Christmas night out in The Clydesdale Inn in Lanark. Treasurer's Report Ian presented this account in Scott's absence. Ed queried an entry regarding a Grant from SLC. Due to this the report cannot be accepted at present, and will amended for the next meeting.
