On Monday 14th October, members and friends of Lanark and District Archaeological Society meet in the Elphinstone Hotel, Biggar, for the second in this sessions lecture series. We were very fortunate to have as our speaker Sally Foster of Historic Scotland. Dr Foster, author of a popular book on the Picts, Scots and Gaels, concentrated her talk on the presentation of early Mediaeval sculpture to the public. She talked about the attitudes displayed to the Mediaeval sculpture in the past and how much of Scotland's collection ended up in Edinburgh.
She explained how attitudes had changed and that now Historic Scotland tries to consider whether it is best to display the piece on site or to transfer it to some local church or museum. The audience enjoyed the lecture and was entranced by the beautiful slides.
