Classes in Hand-Spinning, Weaving and the Use of Natural Dyes

I have been teaching folk to spin for over ten years in Lanark and made many friends in that time. Some come because they are keen knitters, some because they have one or two sheep or goats and want to do something productive with the fleeces and some because they have always been fascinated by spinning wheels and how they work. For me it is wonderful to see an old craft kept alive and to see the thrill someone achieves when they actually wear a garment that they have created from the raw fleece.

Come and create your own unique yarns for knitting, weaving or embroidery. Learn how to spin a yarn from fleece, silk, angora, etc. using a spindle and spinning wheel. Anyone can do it and once you have passed the initial learning stage, it is very relaxing. No equipment is needed - just enthusiasm. I have a selection of wheels and small looms for you to try.

The use of natural dyes is fascinating. The whole colour spectrum is possible from flowers, berries, leaves, roots and fungi. A walk in the woods and lanes will never be the same again!

Classes are held at "Friarscroft", 5 Frairsdene, Lanark. Wednesdays 1 - 4 p.m. and 7.30 - 10 p.m. and cost £2.50 per session.
