Cancan

At some point you will want to put a can on your bike. Usually the original can that comes with it is an ugly beast, and sticks out like an after thought. The R1 and R6 standard cans are not bad from a cosmetic point of view, but you will still want to put a race can on for 4 very good reasons

    THE LOOK
If you are going to put a can on make it look good. The Blue Flame Titanium Hi Level can here is excellent. Also for £249 it's a real bargain.

    THE SOUND IT MAKES
This has got to be heard to be believed. Also, in 1st go up to 500 RMP, let off the throttle and hear the wonderful sound a rapid burp..burp…burp..pop…as the bike comes back off the compression.

    THE EXTRA PERFORMANCE
The can is likely to give you an extra about 8-10 BHP at 10,000RPM.

    THE STREET CRED
Everyone except Grandad has a can.

If you went to the Bike Show in the NEC Birmingham in 2001 you may have seen Blueflame there. I chose the Hi level R6 can in plain Titanium. The can itself is about 10-15 cm shorter than the standard R6 can and has twin outlets. The plain titanium goes very nicely with the buff finish of the R6 frame. If you fancy getting one follow the links to Blueflame. I would get one direct from them (guy called Bill) and not bother going through a retailer/bikeshop. This means you get your can next day instead of a 2-3 week wait and for the same price.

full canBefore you rush to get one, you can download the fitting instructions at the bottom of this page. It takes 2-3 hours to do properly, and involves you moving the rear indicators down a couple of inches. Make sure that when you get new indicators they are like this…all the others look bad.

One point I would make is that I personally never silicone-seal my can into place. I just tighten the jubilee-clip up tight and allow the condensation/stream to dribble out. H20 is better out of the can than in is my philosophy. The drip stops after 2 mins or so when the can gets hot anyway.

full canAnother good reason to fit a can is that you may want to try back-fire it. Cruse along at 20-30 mph, 2/3nd gear push the RPM up to say 7000 for a couple of secs, let off the throttle and at the same time cut off the electrics (big red button that you never touch), let the bike wind down for 2-3 ses, switch on the electric's and hear the BANG and watch the 6inch long blue/orange flame eject out of rear end.

Make sure you are not on the throttle when you turn the bike back on! Not sure if this is bad for the bike, but my Honda didn't moan after hundreds of explosions. I haven't done it yet on the R6 for fear that I split the can end-to-end and considering how close the Hi-can is to me I don't fancy blowing my knackers off.
