Reading all the post, you have me wondering if i have done the right thing! i am soon to pick up my 51 plate R6 (My first bike!!!!) is it bike that i should be ok on if i take it steady, or is it a bike that will have me in plaster & pins ? i have heard that the R6 does not like corners with rough road surfaces, will a steering damper short it out

Hi Lauren. If you like the 6 then I would say get one. Yes they are a little heavy to get off the stand, but they are light to throw arround the roads. Make sure you get one with a good quality steering damper because they are a little twitchy. Yamaha should really fit dampers as standard. Just remember though that you will be riding a powerfull bike, so take your time and get to know her well befor learning to do one leg stand up wheelies. Im 5'2 and I can't touch the ground on my R6 when im sitting on it, but it is all down to technique. Good luck.

Hi All
Ever thought of coming up to the west coast of Scotland - Fort William or Oban. These are great runs and scenery is fantastic. As I come from Aberdeen on the East Coast, I will be travelling to the West Coast again this coming March \April, so if anyone is interested, please contact me.
Regarding Gatso's - I go on to a website called 'nescamp.co.uk' - this tells you where the police are in my area for speeding - not that I speed of course - ha ha!!!
Do you have a similar website where you come from?
All the best for 2004 - stay safe!

I recently bought a new Honda CBR929RR Fireblade (A real mouthful). They call them 929's in Australia but all the manuals and stickers that come with it say CBR900RR. I like all the current sports bikes out there so if it sounds like I'm putting them down, I'm not. I would just like to tell you of my experiences and why I picked the Honda. I was seriously looking at the mighty Yamaha R1. All reports indicate it is a faster and more stylish? looking bike but when I found out it had carbys it turned me off. The front looks a bit bug eyed to me and why does it have big holes in the rear wheel hub?. Is that so you can run a chain through the holes? I know we all have different tastes, also style and colours should not be as important as performance and practicality. I could have bought a 2001 model R1 for the sam

I bought my first real bike just over a month ago now.
I was initially very into my cars and for the last year was the very proud owner of a solid black vauxhall vectra 2.5 V6
The car, i thought was stunning, yet i seemed to be very unlucky, and had no end of mechanical failure with it. So I decided to sell, and did so, gutted.
I lost the usual amount of huge money as you do on newer cars, and on the journey home from the sale in my mates van, I decided a bit of retail therapy would maybe cheer me up. We settled upon one of the local Yamaha dealers, and there I saw a prime example of real man-ness, my R6. After 20mins deliberation I placed a hefty deposit on my new toy, no regrets. The days of cars are over.
I am well pleased with my bike, and didn't expect anywhere near the acceleration it produces. Some

Brand new R6 (04 spec) £4300 + px
Brand new R6 (03 spec) £3800 + px
Far as I can tell the only difference is the paint job, but the price on the 04 spec is excellent considering it that (list) it should be £1000 more than the 03 model. Which would you go for?

I am finally purchasing my 2004 R6 tomorrow 6/3/2004 and as of now I don't have any plans or ideas on aftermarket products to enhance the looks and performance. I am not doing any motor mods, just a pipe and maybe some other minor things like sprockets and a good chain. Anyhow, I just wanted to stop in, say hi and say I will most likely post alot in this forum....As I said 12 years ago, "keep the rubber side down"

Hey Guys and Gals. I live in Oz and got myself a CBR250RR which is a fun lil starter unit but looking to get a 600cc soon. I know im on a R6 Webpage so its prolly a dumb question but its hard to find unbiased advice. Any advice on the next bike hopefully with some reasoning...i mean obviously the R6 is a sexy looking bike and goes off like a frog in a sock but is the cbr600rr or gsxr600 worth a look??? Any help would be appreciated

Just bought soe LED bars that make a nice glow from your bike... Anybody know what wires to cut to hook these puppies up? I have the Haynes manuals and have had a look at very complicated wiring diagrams but I want to be sure what I am doing before I try stuff... They are just 12V connections and preferably I'd only want them on when the headlight come on...

Hey, what's going on? I bought an R6 about 3 or 4 months ago and I love it to death. My first bike was a 1982 honda silverwing(500cc twin). If anyone has the 04 you should call clear alternatives and check out the integrated turn signals. They make a great LED brake light/turn signal to replace the factory LED brake light. Other than that I'd like to get a slip on for my R6 to let it breath a little more. Anyway, gonna go for a ride now, catch yall later!

Have you been accused of speeding based on a radar laser of lidar?
Well these devices have limited accuracy with bikes - esp if the reading was taken at a long distance - eg beyond 1000 feet.
Question - does anyone know of tech reports or other offical information detailing the limits of speed detection devices??
Would love to hear from you!!

Matter of fact,I had only been on a 125 dirtbike for one day the week before I got my bike brand new. I would suggest riding a dirt bike a bit before you get a bike on the road, but when you do get your bike on the street take it to a very secluded side road or parking lot after hours and practice accelerating and breaking while turning at moderate speeds to get used to the way the bike feels and reacts to any different that might come up when youre out on the road. Just take it easy and by the time you are ready for the first oil change youll be very used to the bike. The only people that I know who have ever had any problems on the street have come from either them being too crazy while on the

Hi Steve. I've used the Pirelli Super Corsas quite a bit, both on track and on the road during the summer. They are great, HOWEVER, as all track tyres they need proper warming up. On a racetrack it's not a problem, but on the road you might never get them to the right temperature. You'll probably end up driving overconfident on too cold tyres! At least I did: I had a major rear wheel slide and almost highsided, managed to somehow stay on it... Conclusion: Track tyres for the track (including the Pirelli Super Corsas), Sticky road tyres for road use. I recommend Bridgestone BT014's.

Been told to adjust pre load which i done but has just made the front leave the ground over bumps and the front still shakes like mad. Also at about 35 mph get a noise like a wheel bearing but this has been checked and am getting grease marks around headstock bearing but this has been checked too.I am sure fitting a steering damper will help but i am sure Yamaha would not of let a bike out of the factory that done this so there must be something wrong. Please help as i am du

Hi Guys! Need desperate help! Am a kiwi who has just moved from the Philippines to Korea. My '03 R6 racebike followed closely behind. The packers in the Philippines emptied the tank of fuel (somehow - I was not there) and when it arrived in Korea, some 2 months after, I added some 95 Octane and fired her up. No go! She ticks over but won't fire. I've tried to boost it with a car battery but still no luck. Any ideas what could have happened en route to Korea? Needless to say, I am dying without my baby!

Some of the problems include a kinked radiator and faulty cap, the handlebar has been turned round apparently after a drop, it possibly needs a cam chain replacing and to top it off they belive the head is leaking!?! wether or not this is true is yet to be seen. If anyone is ever after tuning tips or advice get em to email me as i have a 2000 model R6 with a genuine 115bhp at the back wheel done a lot of work to the bike internally, it goes like shit off a shovel even beats standard R1's in a stright line and especially round bends, you should see their faces when they pull up to lights and they realise its a 600. It also does a genuine 174mph (Clocked @ Bruntingthorpe straights) its stupidly quick been lightened as well, handles like a dream, Ohlins suspension & dymag forged magnesium wheels, i have advice on all aspects of tuning & modification work (Done just about everything myself REBUILT IT FROM GROUND UP apart from the maching work (head & cams)
