A Brief History
Hawarden Singers was founded in 1954 by Dr.Emlyn Roberts PhD. M.A. F.R.C.O. A.R.C.M who was a lecturer at Chester College and Examiner for the Trinity College of Music in London.
The choir rapidly gained a reputation for high quality choral singing and became very successful in competitions both nationally and internationally.
Invitations to represent Wales at prestigious events in European cities were undertaken with pride and long-life friendships were forged with other music societies.
In 1988 Dr.Roberts retired and handed the baton to Mr.Hywel John, a local headmaster and long serving member of the bass section.
His expertise and commitment to the choir meant that the high standards set by Dr.Roberts were continued. This culminated in a memorable week of concerts in Auzeville-Tolosane, Toulouse in June 2000 as guests of Chorale Auzeville
The choir reluctantly accepted the resignation of Mr.John in 2001 and agreed to the appointment of Mr.Malcolm Williams who was a member of the tenor section in the past and travelled as the tenor soloist with the choir in 2000.
With a new Musical Director at the helm Hawarden Singers are entering a new and exciting phase in their long and successful history,
