Next Meeting: Wednesday 1st February "A JPEG slideshow"

This meeting was originally suggested as a celebration of our new video projector but as it turns out we have not yet purchased it yet, but nevertheless we are running the show with our usual monitor set up.

The intention of the evening is for members to bring along their own photos illustrating any topic of their own choosing and give a presentation for 10 minutes. It should be entertaining.

dgs has sent the following info. regarding the presentation.

"At the February meeting, I will be bringing along (in addition to one of my Iyonixes and a 23" monitor), a USB2 card reader.

So if people don't want to bring along their own computer, but are able to bring along some JPEGs on a memory card, that should work. Obviously it will make the slideshow slightly less organised than if they prepare it in advance!

The card reader claims to support CompactFlash, Microdrive, Smart Media, MMC, Secure Digital and (an early version of?) Memory Stick. But I've only ever tested it with CompactFlash.

People could also bring along images on CD (or even floppy disk) if preferred.

I have OHP2 installed, so complete presentations in that format should also work.

(Remember to include any files needed).

Cheers,  dgs

Last Meeting: Dinner at the Crown Hotel Manningtree.

This was an enjoyable evening despite a lower attendance from last year. We all had a good chat and a good meal. There were several members who were unable to attend and so we had several "absent friends". I have included several photos of club members and wives celebrating the occasion. Perhaps in the summer we shall choose another venue again.

Editorial

Just a short Newsletter this time and apologies for the late arrival. I had been waiting to get some further info on the March meeting but neither of the speakers that dgs has been trying to book has been able to confirm the date. The Committee will be having a meeting in the near future and would appreciate any suggestions from members for meeting topics or outside speakers you might like us to invite.(Within reason! )

Interest in the IRC sessions on a Tuesday evening has waned considerably and I would like to remind you all that this is a handy way to keep in touch with the club on a regular basis between meetings. It is also especially helpful for those who have difficulty attending meetings in person. Please express your views on the IRC session and let the Committee know if you would like us to make any changes e.g. running it on a different evening or at another time.

Our Website and Email

Following on from a brief discussion at the last club meeting it has been agreed that I should remove a lot of the old newsletters from the website and archive them to CD/DVD. I'll probably not do this before the end of January. If anyone would like a copy of the CD I'm sure this could be arranged.

I am open to suggestions on what people would like to have included in the new website. Our website URL is
