Ipswich - East Suffolk Hockey Club (IES), was previously known as Ipswich & East Suffolk Hockey Club and based at Chantry Park, Ipswich during the period 1986 - 1998. From May 1998, the Club accepted an invitation to become an associate member club of Rushmere Sports Club Ltd, The Street, Rushmere St. Andrew, Ipswich IP5 1DE, (Tel 01473 272525), which became the headquarters and social venue from the 98/99 season. Concurrent with the move to Rushmere, the Club was delighted to be able to agree a merger with Woodbridge LHC.The IES mens 1st X1 competed in the East Region Hockey Association League Premier 'A' Division during the three seasons up to 2001/02 but a downturn in fortunes in recent seasons means we are competing in East Div 3 North East during 2005/06.
The ERHA East league comprises a complete divisional structure for all clubs and all levels of mens teams. Within this, the Mens 2nd X1 are competing in Division 4NE with the 3rd X1 in Division 7SE respectively during the 05/06 season. (NE or SE = North East or South-East sub-divisions).
The Ladies 1st X1 found life difficult during the 04/05 season in ERHA Division 1 and are returning to compete in East Division 2 Central during 05/06. The Ladies 2nd X1 is again again competing in the Suffolk Premier Division during 05/06, whilst the Ladies 3rd X1 will expect to be competitive in the Suffolk 1st Division.
Friendly fixtures for all Club teams make up the balance of a full season of hockey activity. The friendly fixtures programme includes about 8 - 10 Mixed X1 games scheduled for midweek evenings at Framlingham College. These games very much follow in the tradition of truly social hockey with a visit to the local pub for food and a beer afterwards being at the top of the agenda.
Altogether the Club offers a wide range of hockey for all men and women enthusiasts of the sport and new members will be welcome, subject to ability and commitment.
For outdoor hockey during 200/06 the Club makes use of the Copleston School, Ipswich HC (Tuddenham Road) and the Framlingham College artificial pitches (for midweek Mixed games) for all of the mens and ladies league and friendly games. Midweek training details for 05/06 are to be found elsewhere on this site.
Indoor hockey on Monday evenings (October - March) is also offered at our Rushmere Sports Club Headquarters in the Suffolk Indoor Leagues (subject to selection).
We place strong emphasis on our youth programme for the ~6 - 14 years age group with coaching sessions on Sunday mornings at Copleston School from 11.00am - 12.00noon throughout the season and opportunities to play in various matches and tournaments.
!! Finally, please do not confuse us with our good friends at Ipswich Hockey Club
