The general public having a look at River Eden
On the 14th of August, we held a day for our Patrons and members. There was also an article about it in the local paper which invited the public to come in for free and have a look around and possibly have a run on the train.

The buffers at the west end of the site
After a few years of slow progress, the running line has at last joined up with the bufferstop which was placed at the west end of the site last year. A few chairs are still to be fixed down before its all really completed.

Internal view of the work carried out so far in the mezzanine
The outside walls have been painted two tone blue, the upper half being a much lighter blue than the lower. Four hinged opening windows have been fitted; three on the front and a slightly larger one on the east end. These are ex lower sash windows which were from a members old house. The front wall and part of the east end wall has been skinned on the inside with a type of chip board donated by one of the members, and two inches of polystyrene insulation trapped between it and the outer skin. The interior skin was painted ready for fitting the work top and kitchen cabinet units recovered from the old meeting room.

Filling up the kettle with fresh water
At long last mains water flows through pipes and taps on Kirkland Yard. It has taken 6 years of cutting our way through red tape and form filling to get a lad from Scottish Water to take 15 minutes to connect us to the mains supply. Our needs at this time are low as all we wanted was some drinking water on site.

The remains of the meeting room
The old room had been deteriorating for some time and was past economic recovery, so it was decided to demolish it to give more clear space between the main gate and the new meeting room/shed. This has now been done and much useful material has been saved for reuse.

The mezzanine
Work continues into putting in a mezzanine floor above the machine shop. This will benefit us by giving us much needed storage or office space. The majority of materials used in the construction are reclaimed from other uses, including the old portacabins and donations of wood and other items from members.

The seating in the brake van being worked on
Work continues slow but sure on the brake van. Much work has been taking place on the west end of the vehicle and seating has been installed.
January 2010

The final connection
In the ongoing struggle to have water and drainage on site, we now have the septic tank fully installed and the final connection shown here is when the waste from the toilets was connected. We are now waiting for Scottish Water to give us the mains water supply hopefully any day now.
