November 2009

A septic tank set into the ground

In order to have the toilets working, we had to install a septic tank. This was put into the ground and will soon be plumbed into the toilets which are now in place.

October 2009

The run around loop

In the few weeks since the Open Doors Day till the snows hit, we built up part of another set of points on the left hand track looking east from the loop spitting points. Between this set and the points at the compound end of the loop we laid in some more concrete sleepered bull head track. The loop is now technically useable as a rounding loop. To finish the aforementioned points part of one stock rail and a check rail need to be screwed down. The left hand track from this set of points will eventually be extended to give a siding parallel to the track with the platform.

September 2009

Doors Open Day

For the third year running, we took part in Doors Open Day. A busy day was had as many members of the public came along to see us and all the items we had on display.

August 2009

Track lined up to the new platform

To enable the new platform to be brought into use, we laid track from the points up through the fence to the platform. Part of this track laid will also be used for a runaround loop.

August 2009

Largo Law running for the first time

One of the engines we acquired from Scottish Power which was in use at Methil Power Station and after closure, sat out exposed to all the North sea could throw at it. Over the last year, much work has been done to get it into running condition again. It was started up for the first time but there is still a lot to do to have it into proper operational condition. A video is available to view on YouTube.

More detail

The grain van train sitting on the new track

As we had future plans for the space alongside the shed, the engine and grain vans had to be moved. For this, we laid concrete sleepers and bullhead rails before moving the train back onto this.

May 2009

The current end of the line at the west end

Work continues on the tracklaying. The line is now about 300 metres from the end of our site and we stopped laying the track until these last few hundred metres are cleared and ballasted. This is due to take place during July.

April 2009

Track being jacked out of the undergrowth

Rails dragged to a stack ready for transport

Six years ago we were gifted some track at Methil docks area. We lifted most of the 60 foot panels alongside the road at the time but for access and logistical reasons, some of it was left in place. The need for more rail meant we had to go back and retrieve this. The rails were jacked out of the ground and removed from the chairs and dragged out ready to put onto a lorry the next week. The chairs were removed from the sleepers separately.

January 2009

The TSO coach with some of the work done
