The Society was formed in 1992 to run a preservation site in the Kingdom of Fife. This was to take over, operate and maintain the preserved railway items formerly used at the Lochty Railway, which was about to close. We also intended to add to this collection in ways relevant to the railway history of Fife, and to build an archive of historical information about the railways of Fife. We are a registered charity, and as such, have been able to build up relationships with other organisations and public bodies which will not only aid us in the future, but will promote the general cause of heritage activity in the Kingdom of Fife.

Departing from Lochty
We were quickly successful in moving our collection into storage on two sites in the Levenmouth area, and also in attracting additional privately owned items to add to the collection, but have been working since on the much harder task of setting up a permanent site to house our collection.
One of our most active areas is the preservation of the railway heritage of Fife and surrounding areas through the creation of a comprehensive archive of films, pictures, recordings, and documentation of all aspects of railway operation and history.
Although all of our collection has up until recently been stored, we were able to work on some of these items, and have a small team of people who organise this work.
In the summer of 2002, we put up a security compound around the East end of our site to begin the first phase of our operations. The first track was laid in March 2003 with a workshop/engine shed a month later.
The rolling stock and other various items were gradually moved onto the site with the last major move onto site taking place in November 2003.
Further items have been brought in since, including large amounts of track and various amounts of rolling stock, including two engines from Methil Power Station.
Since it's inception, the Society has aimed to attract a wide and varied membership, which will reflect all aspect of the societies aims. In pursuit of this, we hold monthly meetings with guest speakers and progress reports, we publish a bi-monthly newsletter for our members, and, where possible, attend local events to raise funds, publicise our aims, and attract new members.
