TheScottish Railway Preservation Society is the largest in Scotland. Based at Bo'ness, it includes the Scottish Railway Museum and a working branch line. They also run main line tours on the rolling stock maintained at Bo'ness.
Shed 47 is based at The Scottish Vintage Bus Museum at Lathalmond, near Dunfermline. At this former Royal Navy supplies depot, the group are working in what was at one time the depots engine shed on the various steam and diesel locomotives they have and run on the track layout there.
The Strathspey Railway Asscociation run a branch line in the Scottish Highlands from Aviemore to Broomhill with plans to extend to Grantown on Spey.
The Caledonian Railway at Brechin run from their terminus at Brechin to Bridge of Dun.
A recently new reopening of the Keith & Dufftown Railway run an eleven mile line linking the World's Malt Whisky Capital, Dufftown, to the market town of Keith.
Royal Deeside Railway Society are reinstating part of the former Deeside railway line between Banchory - Milton of Crathes which was part of the line from Aberdeen and Ballater.

An excellent well documented site history of Scotland's railways 1800s to the present, called RAILSCOT is definitely worth looking at.
A site with lots to see and also many further rail links is 'Scotland One'
Another good site is 'Scottish Locos' - A site containing information about Scottish Diesel Locomotives, Reviews, Information about Railtours and Model Railways.
There is a vast amount to see and read at Jim Howie's 'Lowland Locomotives' site which shows the variety of locomotives to be found in Central Scotland, and specialises in Monklands.
For current information about 'commercial' railway operations I recommend The Unofficial GB Railway Enthusiast Web Site try to bring you the latest news (both technical and otherwise) from around the Railtrack network.

The Historical Model Railway Society are well worth a visit for the collection and exchange of information for historians and modellers of the railways of the British Isles.
Network Rail is the place to look for all details about the National railway network and finding out about train times.
In Lower Methil, The Methil Heritage Centre is a great place to visit for some of the local history.
The Fife Mining Heritage Society are a local group with an interest in Fifes coalmining history.
Medieval Methil are a local group with an interest in Medieval history.
The Kirkcaldy Civic Society site is worth a look at as it has many interesting items about Kirkcaldy and the surrounding district.
Elie and Earlsferry History Society have a site where they promote the heritage and traditions of Elie and Earlsferry.
