HOLLYWOOD'S SWEETEST STARLET IS BACK - and she's still screaming...
She may only be 19, but Jennifer Love Hewitt is at the top of her game. Queen of the new Hollywood teen pack, she stars in the ultra cool Party of Five, has three CDs under her belt and three films. Now she's running for her life again as Julie in the scary new sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer. Despite her superstar status, Jennifer - who prefers to be called Love - still gets starstruck. She was so excited when her singing idol, Brandy agreed to play her best friend Karla in the movie, she spent all day on the film set singing Brandy and Monica's hit, The Boy is Mine. "Boy, she was sick of my by the end!" laughs Love. Suddenly it's hard to imagine she's the princess of horror...
Were you scared when you first saw I Still Know...? Yeah, when I saw the movie for the first time I left the theatre pretty upset. I wouldn't even go to the restroom by myself, because I thought the fisherman was going to come back and get me. I still get freaked out.
What was the first horror film you ever saw? It was two days before we started filming on I Know What You Did Last Summer. I'd never seen one and Freddie [Prinze Jnr.] made me rent The Shining. Then I watched A Nightmare on Elm Street. I was terrified.
Was it scary making the film? Yeah. There's hardly any light on set and this guy is there with a hook and you see him coming and you wonder what would happen if he accidentally slipped... (laughs)
Were there any injuries on set? Tons. I did pretty much all of my own stunts so I got hurt a lot, but it was fun. They're like battle wounds. In the very last scene in the movie can see bruises all over my arms.
If you heard a noise while you were in bed would you get out and investigate? I don't think I'd be as brave as Julie! But I would probably get up and look around. The first sign of any trouble and I would run like crazy (laughs). I'd be beating on that door shouting "Ray, you're gonna put down that toothbrush and come out here right now!"
Did you give Brandy tips on how to scream? No, she did a good job. I mean, I'm not a master, I'm just loud.
Did you lose your voice at all? On three separate occasions. In Mexico I lost it twice, because most of the action takes place in a rain storm. So I got to two throat infections and tonsillitis. I couldn't talk for a week and they had to give me time off. There are four separate screams right at the end, which I had to dub later because I was just opening my mouth.
What's the scariest thing that's ever happened to you? During filming, Muse Watson, who plays the fisherman, really scared me. We were in the middle of nowhere at 4am and I walked into my room and my things had been moved about. I looked over at the lap top on my table and the words 'I still know...' were being spelt out on the screen. I thought, "Oh my God, somebody knows that I'm the girl from the horror movie and they're going to killer me!" I ran outside and Muse was standing there laughing. He had stayed up until 3am the night before, programming the computer to spell 'I still know...' I was like, "I am going to kill you!"
What was your revenge? At the end of the movie, I paid one of the security guards at the hotel to put a bunch of disgusting bugs in his room. But I didn't know it was mating season for the bugs so they mated! Muse was sooo mad at me.
Did you sing along with Brandy for fun on the set? For fun, yeah, we were always sort of goofing around singing and stuff.
Any plans for a duet? No. I enjoy listening to Brandy sing her stuff. But I think we just want to keep separate. We sing two completely different styles of music!
