Sarah Michelle Gellar was born on April 14, 1977 to Steve and Rosellan Gellar, in the anything but small New York. Her childhood wasn't like most kids. Her parents divorced when Sarah was very young. Her mom took care of her and Sarah has said numerous times that her dad was not there for her. In a TV Guide interview she stated "Just because someone donates their sperm, doesn't make them your father."
Sarah was discovered one day, when she was 4, while eating lunch at a local restaurant. Soon after, she was shooting Burger King commercials. These commercial were actually the first to diss a competitors product. This didn't settle with McDonald's, the competitor. Not only did McDonald's sue Burger King, but as well as the around 5 year old Sarah. The case was later dismissed by the judge.
Her school experience was horrifying for this only child of Steve and Rosellan Gellar. The native New Yorker hated school.... Not the classes but the classmates. To them when Sarah first started her career, she was considered weird. They did not except Sarah. "They were to use to having everything given to them on a silver platter." Sarah once said in an interview.
Later, Sarah went to star as a regular host on "Girl Talk". But during this time her school life did not get any better. Sarah felt different and so she went through many phases to change herself. She would dye her hair once a week. It was hard for her to find a group. So she then enrolled in an exclusive school in Manhattan. This school was precisely for actors, dancers and musicians. This did not make her feel like an outsider anymore.
Sarah's career started blossoming. She landed a spot on a short lived television series, "Swan's Crossing". The show was aired different times almost everyday. The rating were poor and the show was later canceled.
Perhaps the job that made Sarah hit it big was her viscous role on the day time soap-opera "All My Children" as Kendal Hart. Sarah was very believable. So believable she was nominated for an Emmy. Twice. Unfortunately, she lost the first year. A year later as the tension between Sarah and her on screen mother Susan Lucci grew, Sarah, at the age of 17 won her first Emmy. Almost immediately after the Emmy's Sarah left the soap-opera. Although she left right after the emmy Sarah had already decided to quit "All My Children".
Later in her career, Sarah auditioned for the lead role on a new television show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", in 1996. Sarah had auditioned for the role as Cordelia. But out of a strange events was later cast into the lead role, which would later make her a superstar, Buffy Summers.
When "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" debuted on the WB it was not a very popular show. It was number 100 out of 107 shows on it's night. But the next year the show suddenly got 22nd. This was huge for the show and Sarah.
"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" was probably one of the most original shows on television. It had comedy, drama, action, and so much more. Buffy is now beginning it's 5th season and is as great as ever.
During Sarah's hiatus from her first season of Buffy she filmed two movies. Her first movie was the huge blockbuster "I Know What You Did Last Summer". It grossed over 70 million. This also helped Sarah to be recognized and many many viewers started tuning into Buffy. Her next movie "Scream 2", was also a smash hit. Although Sarah had a little part on "Scream 2" as the seroidy sister Cici Cooper, she still was able to bond with other celebrities and gained their friendship. These included: Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox Arquette, Jamie Kennedy, and Jerry O'Connel from "Scream 2", and Jennifer Love, Ryan Phillippe, and Freddie Prinze, J.R.
After the second season of "Buffy" rolled to a stop Sarah did two more movies. One was the box office dud "Simply Irresistible". This movie was about a young chef who was having trouble running her mom's old restaurant. When she meets a wealthy store owner a little magic leads them to love. Then she starred in the sexy "Cruel Intentions". Sarah loved the script as well as the outcome. This was definitely a change to many Sarah fans and was many people favorites. "Cruel Intentions" once again teamed Sarah up with Ryan Phillippe.
After the third season of Buffy, Sarah took a break from movies and instead devoted her time to Habitat for Humanity. There she built houses for poor families.
During the fourth season of Buffy, Sarah started dating, Freddie Prinze, JR. Also Sarah was rumored to be in many movies. There was, "Cat Woman", "Allison", and others. When Buffy's 4th season came to a close Sarah was confirmed to be in "Harvard Man" and "The It Girl". Only time will tell what movies she chooses to do, but let's hope they're good! - biography and images courtesy of "Sarah-Michelle.com".
