I WILL ALWAYS KNOW WHAT YOU DID THAT SUMMER

By Josh D. Winning & Cody Steinman

SCENE 2 written by Cody Steinman and in part by Josh D. Winning

INT. JULIE'S LIVING ROOM - DAY

KARLA wakes up screaming, sweat rolling down her face. Two years older, Karla has gotten past Ty's death, but the nightmares still haunt her. She is sleeping on the couch, wearing a T-shirt and boxers.

JULIE, in a night-gown comes racing down the stairs, followed by RAY, in boxers. They race over to Karla who is not sitting bolt upright on the couch. Julie sits down next to her friend and puts an arm around her comfortingly.

JULIE

Karla, are you all right?

KARLA

I had the nightmare again. Ben came

here, and he killed you two.

JULIE

Karla, we're still here. We're alive.

See?

KARLA

But it was so real.

RAY

Trust us. The nightmares will end.

KARLA

(voice breaking)

When? Huh? It's been two years.

Julie hugs her, understanding what she's going through.

CUT TO:

EXT. JULIE'S HOUSE - AFTERNOON - ESTABLISHING

The day is peaceful. The white house is a pleasant one in a pleasant neighbourhood.

INT. KITCHEN

Julie stands at the counter making a sandwhich for Karla, who sits at the table, perky. She has put the nightmare behind her.

JULIE

So, Ray wants to go to Southport

for July Fourth, but I don't know.

KARLA

You should go. See your mom. I mean,

you aced all your finals. You deserve

a break.

JULIE

It's not just college. It's... memories.

I mean, every where I look, I'm

reminded of Barry and Helen, even Max.

I mean, it would be too emotional.

KARLA

Julie, you have to go. What's that

saying? "Put your demons at rest."

JULIE

I don't want to put my demons to rest.

I like my demons. I've grown accusto-

med to them.

KARLA

Girl, you have some major problems.

JULIE

Ray says it will help his creative

juices, but I don't know. I mean, he

wrote his other novel here. Why can't

he write the next one here too?

KARLA

Because Southport is where he grew up.

It's his life. He needs to go back.

And so do you.

JULIE

He did say his next book would be

about fishermen...

KARLA

See? What better place to write a book

about fishermen than a town filled

with fishermen?

JULIE

I guess...

KARLA

Go for me? Please?

JULIE

I guess. Will you come?

KARLA

You know it. This will be the best

summer of your life.

CUT TO:

EXT. OFFICE BUILDING - DAY

A large building surrounded by other large buildings sits in the middle of the city. The city is very active, with cars, taxis, and buses swarming everywhere.

INT. DAVIS'S OFFICE - DAY

PAT DAVIS, a balding man with a crisp suit and a twinkle in his eye, sits opposite of Ray, whose suit is in disarray and his briefcase cluttered with papers.

DAVIS

Ray, your last book was excellent.

New York Times bestseller. A million

plus copies sold. It really made

people look at lies more than they ever

have. I mean, when the characters covered

up the murder, I was hoping they would

actually get away with it. I mean,

they were really innocent victims. And

how they all respond to the situation is

very dramatic. And the ending with the

court room was a page turner. I can't

wait for your next novel. What's it about?

RAY

Fishermen.

DAVIS

(staggered)

Fishermen?

RAY

Fishermen. About how they stick

together through tough times, even

when one of them commits murder.

DAVIS

(beginning to like the idea)

Very good. So, it's gonna be a crime

drama?

RAY

More horror than anything else. See,

the fisherman's best bud will do

anything to keep his friend's secret,

even if it means murdering more people.

DAVIS

And when can I expect this new novel?

RAY

Well, I'm going to my hometown for ideas,

then after that I was hoping to finish

within a month or two.

DAVIS

Good. I can't wait to read it. You're

gonna be the next big thing after

Stephen King.

Ray smiles. Davis stands up and Ray quickly gathers his things. He stands up. Davis shakes his hand and starts leading him to the door.

DAVIS

You're a good kid. So, how's Julie?

RAY

She's fine. Happy as ever. She's only

a year away from graduating college

and joining a law firm.

DAVIS

I'm glad to hear that. Have Alice send

in Mr. Kingston, would you?

RAY

Of course.

CUT TO:

INT. JULIE'S HOUSE/LIVING ROOM

Julie sits on the couch, flipping channels. Ray enters, looking tired but happy.

JULIE

So, how'd it go?

RAY

Great. Mr. Davis can't wait for my

next book. Karla already leave?

JULIE

Yeah. She had to go to some class.

RAY

She staying the night again?

JULIE

I don't think so.

RAY

Hmm.

He sits down on the couch next to her.

JULIE

Ray, I'm going.

Ray's face lights up. He turns to face Julie, grabbing her hand in his, suddenly excited.

RAY

Really?

JULIE

Yeah. But Karla's coming too, okay?

RAY

I wouldn't have it any other way.

He kisses her on the cheek.

JULIE

Fiesty, are we?

RAY

You know it.

JULIE

Well, just come up to the bed and

I'll put on a show for you.

She giggles and gets off the couch. Ray follows.

CUT TO:

INT. AIRPORT - NEXT DAY

Julie, Ray, and Karla stand in a long line, waiting to get their luggage checked as the airport bustles around them.

JULIE

I can't believe I'm actually going

back. I mean, it's like deja vu.

KARLA

I just want to meet your old friends.

See some baby pictures, get acquainted

with your mom, shop till I drop.

RAY

Not many places to shop. Most people just

go to Shivers.

He clams up. Thinking about that place brings back the bad memories.

KARLA

Well, we could always drive up to

the nearest city.

JULIE

I guess. I just want to relax.

RAY

You will. Trust me, this will be fun.

Julie smiles. Her gaze goes beyond Ray and into the crowd of people. That's when she sees HIM. Her face freezes, her jaw clenching. There, standing in the middle of the airport, is the Fisherman. Julie stands completely still, her eyes fixed on the figure in the slicker. And instead of running for her life (as we'd expect), Julie is collective and calm. She closes her eyes.

JULIE

(whisper)

Not real... he's not real.

She opens her eyes... The Fisherman is gone. Julie relaxes, letting her breath out.

KARLA

Don't you go hyperventilating on me

girl, y'hear me?

Julie looks at her friend and smiles. Karla puts her arm around Julie's shoulders and the three of them advance towards the gate...
