Ilkley Music Centre Association (The Friends)

The Friends of Ilkley Music Centre is an organisation of parents/ guardians and adult playing members. Its basic purpose is to provide practical and financial help to the Centre and generally to enhance the level of community involvement. All parents/guardians of students under 18 and all playing members aged 18 and over are automatically members of the Friends. The Association is a Registered Charity.

What we do

  • We supplement the purchase of sheet music to benefit all members of the Centre.
  • We provide and replace music stands - an essential requirement.
  • We provide many of the larger "community instruments" again essential to the bands but too expensive for some students.
  • We provide some smaller instruments for beginners to hire.
  • Encourage the formation of new classes.
  • Provide general practical support to the teaching staff.

What you can do

  • Support our end of term concerts.
  • Support our community events and fund raising events.
  • Support us by attending the A.G.M. in October each year.
  • Join the Committee.
  • Assist at concerts and fund raising events.
  • Assist by joining the Coffee Club rota (see below).

The Coffee Club

A substantial form of practical help is the provision of coffee and refreshments on a Saturday morning. This involves attendance for approximately 2 hours and provides a welcome break as well as a source of funds. If sufficient people volunteer this should only need to be once a year. Generally (although not essential) the staff on duty supply the refreshments (cakes, buns etc.) but if not a baking person or too busy then packets of biscuits are welcome.

Please volunteer by 'phoning Jane Moreman (Addingham 830530) or respond positively when she approaches you.
