Creating musical magic is what you do and Pioneer's
Professional Sound Series for DJ's has startling new features
that put you in control like never before. The digital technology
of the CDJ-500II CD turntable and the revolutionary DJM-500 mixer
combine to make exploring the endless possibility of sound, a
trip that will take you in totally new directions. Since 1994,
when Pioneer first introduced a CD turntable for DJ's we've been
asking professionals all over the world to tell us exactly what
they need to take their music to the next level. The result is
the up-graded CDJ-500II, designed to meet the rigorous demands of
the club scene, and the DJM-500, a mixer with sophisticated
functions and effects you'll find indispensable for creating new
sounds. Remember Pioneer supplies the tools, you supply the
magic.
UPDATE (20th October 2001): Out
now are many more Pioneer professional DJ products, including a
new DJM600 mixer. It has all the brilliant features of the
original DJM-500 mixer, but with more special FX, different
crossfader curves, different cueing options etc, and better EQ
controls. Also new CDJ1000 vinyl turntable where you can actually
do 'rewinds', scratching and reverse play with CDs, it sounds
100% vinyl-like and it's phat! Check out www.sapphires.co.uk

products. - Jon Gapes.

The layout and controls and the "feel" are the same
as a conventional Analogue turntable design but the digital CD
functions put it light years ahead of conventional turntable
design. Incorporating the best of both the digital and analogue
worlds puts the CDJ-500II in a class by itself.
Jog Dial
The extra-large, quick-response Jog Dial makes searching the
music frame-by-frame and selecting precise cue points easy-easier
and more precise, in fact, than setting the tone arm on vinyl.
Flat-Top Design
DJs used to working with turntables will have no problem
switching to the top-mounted controls of the CDJ-500II.
Instant Start
Unlike nearly all other CD players, there is no lag time when you
hit the play button. The CDJ-500II starts the music instantly so
you can match the rhythm with pinpoint accuracy.
Playing Address
A light bar graphically shows the song's elapsed playing time,
just like a tone arm moving across a record.
Tempo Control
A DJ-standard long-stroke slide controls pitch and speed within a
range of +-10 percent. The digital display gives a readout in 0.1
percent increments. The response time of the Tempo Control also
has been improved dramatically.
Master Tempo
An industry first. The new Master Tempo control locks in the
music's pitch even when the tempo is changed. You can speed up or
slow the beat with no change in vocal and instrument tone. It
brings a new way of mixing to the DJ world.
Loop Functions
Any phrase of the CD can be sampled and seamlessly looped as many
times as desired. When the loop is released, the song continues
without pause. The loop start is memorised so you can return
anytime. You can now Real-Time Loop. Setting the start point of a
desired phrase of the CD can now be done in real time during live
performance. The end point is also set in real time; when the
loop is released, the music continues without pause. A Long Loop
can now be achieved. Up to 10 minutes of music can be sampled and
seamlessly looped as many times as needed. Also you can achieve a
Short Loop. Looping half beats and phrases as short as one frame
is possible. Another new feature is Reloop. Even after releasing
a loop, a push of the Reloop button will return you to the loop
start point.
DJM-500 - The Professional DJ Mixer
This is the mixer top DJs have been waiting for.
Explore a new world of sound by linking effects to the beat with
the Auto BPM function. The DJM-500 and CDJ-500 Series make the
perfect system for creating the ultimate in club or house party
music.
Auto BPM
Let the digital readout confirm what you already know by ear. The Beat-Per-Minute Counter measures the BPM of virtually all kinds of dance music, enabling you to check the tempo at a glance. Linking widely differing types of music is easier then ever with the Auto BPM Counter.
Delay
A single repeat of 1/2, 3/4 and 1/1 beat music can be overlaid over a track. For example, with 1/2 Beat delay, four beats will be increased to eight, while using the 3/4 Beat Delay produces a "leap sound" effect.
Echo
Repeatedly overlaying beats of 1/2, 3/4 and 1/1 is simple. Cutting in 1/1 beat Echo can create an intriguing fade to the beat; applying it to the mike causes microphone output to be reproduced repeatedly to the same beat.
Auto Pan
The left-right balance can be changed automatically to the rhythm as rapidly as you like. Auto Pan can do rhythmic switches too quick for human operators.
Flanger
Switching to the Flanger effect produces synthesiser tones quickly and easily at 1/2, 3/4, 1/1, 2/1 and 4/1 time. The Flanger works particularly well in conjunction with a Seamless Loop.
Pitch Shifter
The Pitch Shifter corrects for changes in pitch within a range of +- 1 octave when using analogue turntables or other vendors CD players. Used with the MIC, the Pitch Shifter can alter voices.
