The spreadsheet below records the responses of 56 questionnaire
forms returned. The superimposed column chart records the results
of those questionnaires in identifying 29 problems. In the process
of collecting responses the last six were added and gradually
gained some votes.
The next spreadsheet follows up the first Questionnaire
results with the observations recorded weekly in the subsequent
fourteen weeks. The main observations recorded are of motor scooter
movements along footpaths or doing wheelies, or ridden without
plates or helmets. Some of these include trespass on private property.
Next is an upsurge in graffiti tagging. Certain routes are prone
to dog mess and littering is pretty universal but with a few street
drinking and isolated drinking littering locations. Stone throwing
is the language of the streets and this is at times associated
with racial provocation rising to assault. Certain premises are
targeted for fence breaking and roof climbing. Driving while using
a mobile phone is reaching epidemic proportions despite the change
in the penalties. Early intervention is essential in preventing
anti-social behaviour escalating to actual criminality.
Superimpose the perceptions versus the observations.

The same column chart information can be presented
as a pie chart, this presents the multiple concerns more wholistically.
The next pie chart follows up the first Questionnaire
results with the observations recorded weekly in the subsequent
fourteen weeks. The main observationa recorded are of motor scooter
movements along footpaths or doing wheelies, or ridden without
plates or helmets. Some of these include trespass on private property.
Next is an upsurge in graffiti tagging. Littering is too common
to be properly counted. Driving with a mobile phone in hand is
rampant. As to council matters, gulleys blocked with leaves or
even filled with silt and growing weeds is a cause of three major
flood sites. Fortunately the council has issued hedge maintenance
notices on the footpaths and there is a marked improvement. With
the arrest and sentencing of a motorbike user on another matter,
there is now an abrupt and welcome reduction in motorbike movements.

Residents' suggestions in the bar chart show the variety
of ideas that might make a difference. See text beneath the chart
for an analysis.
Vigilance is free, we can all look out for each other
- greet each other - and perhaps notice suspicious visitors. Gates
might reduce through traffic and along with signage reinforce
privacy. Cameras depend on monitoring but fake cameras may be
a deterrent. The Safer Neighbourhood Team could schedule their
visits closer to the events that occur with regularity - but mere
presence is not an alternative to working together with supportive
responses and feedback.
