Test plantings: waterlogged soil in bad condition, leached of all goodness. Oak sapling bean poles.

The Lapp potatoes grow successfully in the deeper soil towards the fence but the shallower soil in the foreground produces poor crops of onions and kale. The runner beans produce a good crop.
