| FADING PICTURES ... | |
In May 1997 the four of us decided to take a year's break from any new bookings. "Inside Out" had been playing together for 3 years at that stage, and both Dale and I had played with "Live Issue" for over a decade before that. We felt it was time to take a breather from the pressures of constantly playing week after week. During this time we could take the opportunity to pursue a few individual projects; projects which would have been difficult to do if the group had been fully committed as in previous years. We also decided to take some time and record an album which we would release once we were back on the road again. Previously we had recorded two E.P.'s as "Inside Out" - the first was released for our visit to the United States in July 1995, and the second entitled "Loose Ends" was released in November 1996. We wanted our new recording to be a full album containing a number of original songs as well as some of our favourites by other Gospel artists. And so the concept of this album was born. Work on "Fading Pictures" began
in June 1997 at our studio (Hillcrest) which is built in
the attic of my house outside After Easter we brought eight of the twelve songs to Gary Aiken and Novatech Recording Studio in Belfast so Mark could add some live drums and we could finish off the basic tracks we had already recorded. We have known Gary since 1992, he has an excellent studio and it is always a pleasure to work with him. During August I added the final vocals and then in October and November David put down the bass guitar. Dale recorded some more keyboards and our old friend Pete McCarter added some lead guitar. The remaining four songs which had a more acoustic 'feel' to them were completed back at Hillcrest around the same time. All twelve tracks were eventually mixed down and digitally mastered at the end of December '98 and early January '99 leaving us with the recording you have today. We hope you enjoy the album, but most of all we hope that God will use it for His glory. As the song says we want to give "our utmost for His highest." Colin Elliott (August 1999)
