Sunday 24th June 2001 - 13:40 Welcome to the Extra Vehicular Activity website! This is the first post to be made, and as such will detail roughly what is going to happen! Firstly, EVA is a concept that a friend and I had (I will be getting him to help me with this shortly!) regarding a game based around car-racing or similar. It will eventually be a shareware program, that will be released on the Internet. We have envisioned some multiplayer aspects and various types of play for the game, as well as numerous vehicles to crash and burn! I suppose what you're wondering is how far we have got into completion, and when this thing will be released. Well, basically, we have yet to draw up a proper concept as of yet, which is why production has been so slow! We have got a basic engine working under some DirectX routines produced for Delphi 3.0, and are hoping to transfer over to C++, so that we can make use of the DirectX SDK. However, although learning to program with DirectX is a little tricky, given time it can be achieved! However, we are struggling with the Physics of the game, and have applied our basic Mechanics knowledge to the car, producing some fairly realistic results. Once we research the mechanics aspect a little further, we can introduce some cool effects such as hand-break turns and some interesting collisions and the associated damage! The game will be a 2-D game, since we really can't be bothered to make a 3-D engine, and I also prefer the cartoonish aspect of the overhead view! Now that both our exams are over, we can concentrate a little harder on EVA (affectionately known as "Car Game" on occasion!) |
