IPSWICH RHINOS END OF SEASON DINNER & AWARDS

(held at The Sir Alf Ramsey Suite,
Ipswich Town Football Club)

Ipswich Rhinos celebrated the end of their most successful season ever with an end of season dinner and presentation evening in The Alf Ramsey suite at Ipswich Town's Portman Road football ground on Saturday night. Club chairman David Peachey praised the young Ipswich squad for their commitment and hard work through out the season, and commented that with so many individuals making outstanding contributions and achieving new personnel goals the 2003 award nominations had been the hardest he had known to pick.

The Player of the Year award presented by David Peachey went to club Captain Peter Le Marquand who all season lead from the front and was consistently in the frame for the man of the match award. Peter was also the Players choice, and was presented with the Players Player of the year award on their behalf by Kevin Cook, who also had some special words of praise for Peter's coaching ability. When the club struggled to find a Team coach at the being of the season Peter also took on the role of Player - coach and lead the team to the Harry Jepson Trophy semi-final where they where beaten by the eventual winners Bridgend Blue Bulls. Peter Le Marquand's ability has also been recognised on a wider scale in that he is one of only five players nominated for the TOTALrl.com Conference Player of the year and was included in Conference dream team for which he will receive a special personalised commemorative shirt.

Team Captain Paul Le Marquand in presenting the Young player of the year award speculated as to whether there could be any other conference side where such a high proportion of the squad qualified for consideration for this award. In his first year of Rugby League and only just 18 years old the young player of the year was Dave West, who amongst his achievements this year twice scored four trys in a game. Dave West has also received a nomination for the Conference young player of the year award, which is the second year running the Rhinos have had a player nominated for this award. Dave Flaherty presented the trophy for most improved player of the year to Richard Burton who was ever present in the side through out the year, always showed great commitment and grew in confidence with every game.

Andy Windridge and Dave Signor were presented with awards for being top tacklers and then each squad member was presented with a commemorative plaque in recognition of a most memorable season.

Finally, Peter Le Marquand on behalf of the players presented club secretary Barbara Peachey with a bouquet of Flowers in appreciation of everything both she and David do over the year; without which there would be no Ipswich Rhinos.
