The Rhinos knew that a big score against St. Ives was essential as points difference could be used to secure home advantage in the play off matches. Consequently, the Rhinos fielded a full strength side against a St Ives side that gamely turned up with a man short, and in the heat, ran themselves into the ground chasing a Rhinos side that was stronger and faster in every department. St Ives never gave up or lost discipline, and won the respect of the crowd when Steve Burke battled his way over the Rhino line in the 68th minute to put them on the score sheet. The Rhinos response was however predictable, scoring immediately from the restart with the try that broke the 100 point barrier, at which point, with St Ives players playing on with injuries rather than leave the field, referee Andy Howe wisely brought the game to an early close.

Ipswich started their onslaught as early as the 4th minute when Steve Haycock set Dave Signor on his way from 30 meters and Matt Harwood scored a carbon copy try within minutes after Steve Haycock had again made good distance down the centre before laying the ball off wide. On 13 minutes the Rhinos man of the match Peter Le Marquand scored from a 40 meter break and straight from the restart Matt Harwood scored his second with a 70 meter break after fielding the ball deep in his own half. Tane Trafford ran in a simple try after good work by Mike Fields, and in the last 10 minutes before half time Dave west ran in a hat trick to make the score42-0 at half time.

As in the first half Dave Signor scored his second try within minutes of the start and then Dave Husband made an excellent angled run off his right wing to score with his first touch of the ball on an impressive Rhinos debut. And so the pattern was largely set for the rest of the game with Rhinos adding further tries at regular intervals from Paul LeMarquand, Jeff Binder, Tane Trafford (2), Dave Husband (2), Dave West, and Mike Fields. Peter Le Marquand kicked 13 conversion from 18 tries the final score 102-4 to the Rhinos.

The Rhinos have reached the seasons mid point with five wins from five and must now surely be the favourites For the Eastern Division Title.
