RHINOS
CREAM ST IVES
Ipswich Rhinos 78 - 4 St Ives Roosters
Ipswich
Rhinos retained their unbeaten run and completed their first double
of the season against a lack luster St Ives side that showed none of
the gritty resistance from the first fixture. Played in a practice match
atmosphere the Rhinos scored next to the posts after 2 minutes from
a Dave Signor scoot and then steadily racked up their score with St
Ives rarely threatening the Rhino line. The Rhinos quickly followed
up with a second try. Fast cross-field play found Dave Husband on the
overlap who ran round the Roosters defence to score under the posts.
Then on 14 minutes Joel Barrett collected a high kick deep in the Rhinos
half and sprinted to within 20 metres of the St Ives line, before drawing
the defenders and off loading to Nick Woodland to score under the posts.

Alex
Stratton-Thomsett then added a brace of tries, both from overlaps on
the wing following turnovers from St Ives errors and on 31 minutes Brendan
Cook seized on a Roosters error and instigated a cross field move for
Peter LeMarquand to score. Then following a spell of high pressure Lee
Elliston found the way through on an impressive debut to score the first
of two tries. On the stroke of half time Lee Elliston and Brendan Cook
both made surging runs from a penalty before turning the ball back in
field to Adam Cook to break through the defensive line and score. Peter
LeMarquand converted 6 of the 8 first half tries to make the score 44-0
at half time.

From
the restart Ipswich immediately put the Roosters back under pressure
and Lee Elliston forced his way under the posts for his second try,
and two minutes later Andy Wilson powered his way through two tacklers
to score from 10 metres. On 50 minutes good work from Tane Trafford
found Brendan Cook who looked certain to score but as defenders closed
in popped the ball to his brother Adam for an easy score. Five minutes
later Tane Trafford capped further good play with a try of his own.
Youngster Darryl Walters continues to improve with every game and provided
the pass for Mike Fields to score on 70 minutes after a 50-metre break.
Andy Windridge was as solid as ever in defence but the Ipswich man of
the match was Dave Signor who worked tirelessly at Hooker.

On
75 minutes St Ives scored a consolation try when the Rhinos full back
dropped a catch in front of his own posts and from the resulting scum
Chris Morton crossed the line for an unconverted try to bring the score
back to 68-4. However, Darryl Walters added two further tries for the
Rhinos in the last 10 minutes, which with Peter LeMarquand converting
3 of the second half tries gave a final score of 78 points to 4.
