West London vs
Ipswich 3rd June 2000
West
London 64 - 6 Ipswich
A case
of 'after the Lord Mayors show' for Ipswich after such a good display
last week. West London proved themselves virtually unbeatable on their
own, huge, 75 metre wide pitch. Kicking up the slope in the first half
the Londoners built up a 26-6 half time lead - Glyn
Thomas scoring Ipswich`s only try of the match. Steve Barrett converted.
Ipswich
tackled gamely throughout the match but had very little to show for
it at the end as West London continued to dominate exploiting the width
of the pitch to score a near 40 point second half.
The
Wests deployed a dummy runner at every opportunity and were well served
by willing wide deep runners, excellent support play and rigidly stuck
to a very simple game plan. Ipswich`s Steve Sudlow and Dave Flaherty
have already started planning for next week`s 2nd leg of a ridiculous
three match consecutive run of away fixtures at
St Albans which means the Rhinos will have played only TWO home games
by round seven when they are away to Hemel.
With
each away game in London costing upwards of £350 in coach travel,
home games are needed in equal occurrence to away fixtures to help raise
the necessary funds. Ipswich Rhinos hope to again be at full strength
as they seek a first away win of the season.
