Established for over 25 years in the South London and Surrey areas of the UK, the Conor Academy of Irish Dancing, which is independently run by former World Champion Dancer, Bridie Willis, TCRG, and is registered with "An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha" (The Irish Dancing Commission), the governing body situated in Dublin and which is supported by local councils throughout the world.

Pupils from 5 years old are taught and coached from beginner status through to championship standard in preparation for national feisanna (competitions) performing traditional solo reels, hornpipes and jigs as well as team dancing.

The Conor Academy of Irish Dancing are a small school (in Irish Dancing terms) and where class sizes are intentionally kept to a strict maximum of 20 but where the emphasis is on learning and enjoying dance steps - our Motto is "enjoy your dancing - winning is a bonus". We do however have our fair share of success, and have provided many displays and exhibitions of traditional irish dancing - and have performed at many special events over the years. Take a look at our impressive portfolio to date:

Representing the Irish Dancing community of the UK, the Academy were at the centre of a production of "Sunday Night at the London Palladium" to a packed audience, on 25th June 2000. The 32-strong troupe of dancers ranged from beginners to championship standard and aged 6 to 20 years.

In September 2000, the Academy teamed up with Tara Televison, the Irish theme channel from SkyDigital TV, to perform at the Alton Towers entertainment and theme park.

During April 2001 the Conor Academy performed displays of traditional Irish dancing at a Scottish tattoo, offering that special blend of Gaelic entertainment. This show at the World famour Royal Albert Hall provided a great spectacle of Celtic magical music, song and dance brought by over 400 performers to an audience of over 3000.

During March 2002 the Academy visited the studios of Talkback Productions in London, for the recording of the cult BBC2 Pop Quiz show, "Never Mind the Buzzcocks" to be broadcast nationally during May 2002.

To help kick off the 2002 St. Patricks' Weekend, Butlins have recruited the Conor Academy to provide a display of traditional Irish step-dancing for the St. Pat's event, on the big stage, at Butlins' Minehead holiday venue in support of Dominic Kirwin.

Bringing Irish dancing to the wonderful world of Disney, the Academy have recently performed 'live' on the Disney Channel. A small group of 8 dancers performed and provided the 'links' between programmes.

International Children’s festival of Peace in Sofia, Bulgaria - demonstrated excellent 10 days of festivities, culminating in a multicultural event with dance parties from across the world.

During July 2000, several younger dancers from the Academy shared the billing with top comedian Ronnie Corbett, at a local event in Norwood Grove, South London.

International travel to Medias, in the Transylvania region of Romania, to perform at Pe Mures si Pe Tarnave. This event saw 8 senior pupils take part in a number of displays, joining a party of traditional dancers from across Europe, including Welsh, Scottish highland dancing, English Morris and a spectacular exhibition of English Sword Dancing.

The prestigious 'annual' opening celebrations of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships where the Academy provide several displays throughout the afternoon. Once agin, we are very pleased to be invited back every year.

St. Patrick's day, of course, keeps us very busy and this year's festivities in particular, saw the Academy perform at no less than EIGHT local events. Invitations are already flooding in for next year.

We were very proud when pupils of the Academy joined forces with other Irish dancers around London to take part in a successful world record breaking attempt for the largest number of Irish dancers to perform a synchronised step. Filmed and broadcast nationally by the BBC, the students danced alongside World Champion Colin Dunne and the famous Riverdancers.

The Post-Match party at the 2002 England v Ireland Six Nations Rugby International provided the stage for the Academy to display their talents for a fantastic and appreciative audience at Twickenham.

The Academy displayed their talents for an international audience at London's Savoy Hotel.

The Academy is also pleased to provide 'local' dancers for the KICK Irish Dance Theatre Company for performances at the Lewisham and Wimbledon Theatres.

Recent years have seen the Academy at the Great Britain, the Southern England Irish Dancing Championships, and at the World Championships.

We were very pleased to provide a short but well-rehearsed performance at Saint Hill Manor, for a 1,400 stong audience for the Church of Scientology, at East Grinstead.
