My Name History: Cormac is a traditional Irish Gaelic name also taken from Irish myth and legend. Cormac MacArt was a legendary High King of Munster whose reign may have occurred in the third century; though whether he was an historical character or a purely mythical personage, cannot be satisfactorily determined.
He succeeded to the throne by defeating his predecessor, Fergus the Black-toothed. Cormac is also credited with constructing the first water-mill in Ireland. Another namesake, Cormac Conloingeas was the son of the legendary King of Ulster, Conor MacNessa (and Conor, of course, is my big brother).
The Irish name of Cormac was anglised as Charles, which is the second christian-name of my Daddy and my Daddy's dad, 'Grandad Ted'. Alan is the first christian-name of my Daddy, and Simon is the first christian-name of my Mummy's dad, 'Grandad Simon'.
Me and my Daddy, both support Southampton Football Club - "Come on you Saints"...
