SEASON STARTER ABANDONED AFTER 1ST STAGE

The P&O Irish Sea Tour of the North was called off after only one stage amid the Easter foot and mouth scare in Northern Ireland.

Club riders Ian Duncan and Willie Laithwaite had to postpone their planned start to the season after competing in the grueling 1 mile prologue time trial stage set against the magnificent backdrop of Stormont Castle on the outskirts of Belfast.

Both riders enjoyed a chat with Kate Hoey the Minister for Sport before the less enjoyable task of riding up the hill to the parliament building on a cold Good Friday evening.

It was a sad end to what promised to be an exciting event, with Julian Winn, riding for the Welsh National Squad claiming a 1 second victory in the prologue time trial to stake his claim for overall victory had the race continued until Tuesday as planned.

So it's back to the drudge of the Scottish domestic calendar for our boys, and we wish them both well for the season ahead.
