The Curtis Family
Curtis
A nickname for a courteous or refined person, possibly used ironically on occasions, derived from Old French curteis, meaning refined.
Very little information about the Curtis family has so far been found in the main records available, such as census returns.
The marriage certificate of George Edward Izzard (c1816-1893) and Harriet Curtis (c1816-unknown) provides the name and occupation of Harriet's father James Curtis, a fringe weaver, whilst entries in both the IGI and Pallot's Marriage Index record a marriage between James Curtis and Harriet Shill in 1815.
The IGI also includes an entry for the baptism of Harriet, daughter of James and Harriet Curtis, and other baptism entries may eventually provide leads to further members of the family.
