Family Biography: James Izzard (c1793-1838)
A Possible Family
Currently little is known about James Izzard and his wife Sarah. James Izzard was born c1793 and married Sarah Clarke on 13 December 1812 at Old Church, St Pancras. They had at least two surviving children, James William, born c1813, and George Edward, born c1816. Both brothers were christened in the parish church of St Sepulchre.
Various certificates record that James Izzard senior was a weaver, however, no record of Sarah's employment has, as yet, been found.
James died on 16 February 1838 at the age of 45, just three days before the marriage of his son George, with the cause of death recorded as a "Visitation from God".
As well as entries for the two brothers James William and George Edward, the IGI lists two other children born to a James and Sarah Izzard that merit further investigation:
- Frederick Henry, christened on 28 March 1815 in St Sepulchre, London
- Emery, christened on 13 September 1818, in St Sepulchre, London
The dates and place of the christenings for both Frederick and Emery suggest they may be siblings of James William and George Edward.
Although speculative, the following diagram shows a possible family tree for James and Sarah Izzard.
