1927 Lea Francis 1LFS

This 1927 Lea Francis 1LFS was procured from the Grayston family in 2002

Chassis Number 348 (a late number in the series), Year 1927, Ace engine number 2 (this is the earliest number in the series fitted to Ace-of-Spades cars), Reg No. WK 2948.

Probably because of the problems with the 1LFS engine, it had been fitted with an 'Ace-of-Spades' engine with 'P'-type gearbox and freewheel.    Whilst this modification may have made a lot of sense when undertaken about 50 years ago, the extra weight and method of mounting was damaging the chassis.     It is planned to return this car to as near original spec as possible.

Having acquired two 1LFS engines from Neville Webb (the running modified unit being fitted to the pre-war special), there are two disassembled engines to choose from to fit to this car.    The decision is not yet finally taken, but it is likely that 1LFS engine number 318 will be fitted as it is very original and undamaged.

The following sections will cover the rebuild (the site will be updated as progress is made)
