Book Description: New York: Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1958. Hard Cover. First Edition, First Printing. Published under direction of the Book-of-the-Month Club, Inc. Size 10" X 13". Portfolio's 1-12 copyright 1958, Portfolios A-H copyright 1959 and Portfolios I-L Copyright 1960. All portfolios have original onion skin jacket in poor to good condition (many repaired for book protection only and not presentation). Quality of books ranges from Very Good to Fine where flaws are identified below. All paste down pictures on front of each front board are in fine condition. Since the jackets are present the boards are a consistent grey colored paper. Each portfolio has all 12 Loose Colored Plates in the front pocket envelope. Each portfolio has a set of "Review Questions" laid in along with a brochure, "Subject of the Next Portfolio" (except the last portfolio "L"). Portfolio 1 has the "Pronunciation Guide for Series One of the Metropolitan Seminars in Art" and a "Dear Subscriber" letter from Meredith Wood, President BOMC. Portfolio's A-L each have a separate "Pronunciation Guide" laid in. Volume L has a "Dear Subscriber" letter from Harry Scherman, Chariman of the Board, BOMC, Inc. laid in. The individual portfolio titles are as follows: (1) What is a Painting? Portfolios 1 (VG), 2 (NF), 3 (VG+), 6 (NF), 11 (VG) have corner bumps. Portfolios I (VG) bump to lower spine, J (VG) bump to lower spine and lower front corner. All others fine with the interiors of all portfolios also unmarked. All plates are unmarked and as issued.
