West Country Trout was built by Diccon and Deborah
Ruscombe-King in 1982 and is now run by their son, Justin who took over
in 1994. Justin has 22 years' experience in the industry including
building, designing and managing trout farms and fishing lakes all over
the UK. Since taking over the West Country Trout, the farm has
been expanded; a breeding programme has been put in place for salmon, rainbow,
brown and Boscastle Blue trout and the business has further diversified into
lecturing and other consultancy.
West Country Trout aim their unique range of products at the sport
fishing market catering for large reservoirs (up to 1000 acres); medium
sized fishery units (up to 10 acres) and privately owned fishing ponds
and estate lakes. The specially-bred Boscastle Blue offers a fishery
owner a matchless product designed to enhance any still water and its high
visibility and fighting temperament will entice any angler to return.
We currently act as consultants to The Fowey River Association and
the Camel River Association on their Salmon Enhancement schemes as well
as the Southwest Lakes Trust. We are also lecturing mature students on niche
marketing and fish farm management.
Design and innovation have historically been one of the key features
of West Country Trout. Our latest development has been perfecting
of the artificial river for brown trout and salmon rearing. The principle
idea is to raise the young fry and parr in an easily controllable artificial
environment, but at the same time preparing them better for their lives
at sea or in the hostile river environment. This important development has
resulted in the production of much tougher, bigger and toned fish which
survive better in the wild.
