My Granada Scorpio

I bought C406 DUC in late 1992 because I fancied a change and thought that an autobox and air con would be the best way to cope with todays congested roads. Five years on it is the longest I've ever had a car and I'm still not too bothered about changing it. I've yet to find another car that is so comfortable and relaxing to drive for so little money.

It had a suspiciously low 55K on the clock and no service history to back it up so it obviously wasn't a text book buy. But it had a sweet engine, nice gearbox, no rust and a clean interior so it seem like a good buy compared to the other 4 I saw.

Now with 120K on the clock it has had a gearbox rebuild, new air con condensor, new shocks, most rubber bushes and gaiters have now been replaced, a cracked Power steering pump replaced and new front ABS sensors. Plus a few other things I can't remember.

On the positive side the engine is still tight and does 32mpg on a long run. Most parts that wear out are pretty cheap even from the Ford dealer. It almost never fails to start or get you to your destination. Here we are at the other end of the country:

Unless any niggly faults develop that cannot be traced I expect I'll keep it and run it into the ground. As the next owner will probably want to end C406 DUC days down at the local banger racing circuit, I'm not too bothered about the odd parking dent or standing my ground in London traffic, yet another reason why it is so relaxing.
