MSS001 Plan of the Battle of Talavera Anon [4pp. A.L.S, with ink plan of the battle of Talavera.] [Dated in pencil 1st Dec.r 1809.] Plan 200 x 245mm.
The battle of Talavera, (July 27-28, 1809) was a bloody yet inconclusive battle seventy miles southwest of Madrid, Spain, fought between the French army under King Joseph Bonaparte of Spain and the British under Sir Arthur Wellesley (yet to be made the Duke of Wellington). This careful plan, with a 10-point key, has a 2-page description of the battle in English, signed illegibly, but apparently by a British Army officer.
