More about the author James Chalmers

James Chalmers's education, training and much of his working life has been with engineering and science, but he now makes his living as an artist and an author. For a long time he has been interested in the links between the environment, diet and health. Drawing on information available in the published work of doctors, scientists and alternative health specialists, he was able to bring all his ideas together in the book Achieving Personal Well-being (First published 1998, second edition 1999).

This popular book has now been made available to readers in China, with the publication of a Chinese language edition in 2000, a significant achievement for the author, because the majority of alternative health ideas invariably travel from the east to the west.

Are You What You Eat? was published in 1999. This book takes a more focused look at diet. The author intended this as a practical guide for those wishing to achieve and maintain their correct weight, and generally improve health. This is a low cost publication, at a price comparable with a single visit to a diet club or workshop. It offers a real alternative to the more fashionable starvation approach of calorie restriction - which in most cases rarely produces a long lasting improvement.
