Enzo Muccetti was Principal Bassoonist of l'Orchestra della Scala, Milano for fourteen years and professor at the Conservatorio A. Boito, Parma. He was internationally respected as one of the leading players and teachers of his day. He was a phenomenal reed-maker.
Reed-making formed an inseparable part of his system of
teaching. He himself only changed from the Buffet to the Heckel
at the age of forty-two and his study of reed-making was relevant
to both systems. Furthermore he came from a long line of great
players, having studied with Alberto Orefici, himself a pupil of
Eugene Jancourt, and so on back to the C18 Besozzi family of
double reed players from Torino and Parma.
