Lesson 4 : Joining Up

At the beginning of the lesson pupils discussed the homework that had been set
(The political cartoon of little boy Belgium and big old man Germany)

Pupils watched a video clip describing the Retreat from Mons, the Battle of the Marne and the so-called Race to the Sea

A map of the Western Front was given out and key names highlighted

'Recruitment'

Case studies of 4 civilians who had joined up were examined by pupils

Homework

Pupils watched a very short video clip on the White Feather movement and were given homework based upon poster questions from the BBC Bitesize website

Use Source A and your own knowledge to explain why the Government produced recruiting posters.
