The shape
of the church :
- churches
were built in the shape of a cross
- the
chancel (where the altar could be found) always faced to the east (towards
Jerusalem)
- the
nave was the name of the aisle running up the centre of the church
- most
church towers were square with or without steeples
- there
were usually doors in the noth and south walls for church processions
