Kirk of Calder :
- the medieval church was demolished to make way for a bigger church
- Peter Sandilands was the rector and in 1542 he described what building work would take place
- because of the Reformation the church was not finished
- only the choir was completed and this became the church or kirk for the parish
- the transepts were added in 1863 because the congregation was bigger
