Mr and Mrs Gillespie, 34 Dee Street, West Calder, have received the sad news that their son, Sergt. Finlay McMartin Gillespie, of the Royal Scots, has been killed in action. The official news is not yet to hand, but the news was conveyed in a letter from a Lieutenant, who said he saw him shot through the head. Sergt Gillespie was in the local Company of Territorials, and was mobilised at the outbreak of war. After being on coast defence for a time he was sent to France. He was home wounded about a year ago. In civil life he worked as a miner in West mains Colliery and is in his 22nd year.
