Memorial: SOISSONS MEMORIAL, Aisne, France
Location: The town of Soissons stands on the left bank of the River Aisne, approximately 100 kilometres north-east of Paris. The Soissons Memorial, which will be found in the public square, commemorates nearly 4,000 war dead from the 1914-1918 War who have no known grave. Its particular reference is to the Battles of the Aisne and Marne, 1918, in which comparatively small bodies of British troops played a conspicuous part in defeat and in victory. The memorial consists of a cenotaph before which stands the figures of three soldiers. Behind the memorial is a three-sided wall bearing the names of those officers and men who fell in this theatre of war and who have no known grave. The memorial register is kept at the Mairie where it may be consulted.
