"Writing from France to his mother, Pte Roden or Sweeney, of the Royal Scots, whose home is at 14 Forth Street, West Calder, says he took part in the severe fighting on the 25th September and he has been recommended for the Distinguished Conduct Medal for bravery in the field. He also states that Pte Peter Wynne, who resided in Clyde Street with his mother, was killed not far from him."

Location:  Loos-en-Gohelle is a village about 5 kilometres north-west of Lens. The Loos Memorial forms the side and back of Dud Corner Cemetery where over 1,700 officers and men are buried, the great majority of whom fell in the Battle of Loos.
