Historical Information:  In March, 1916, the British forces took over this part of the French line; and in July, 1916, they began to use the Cemetery, which contained already more than 2,000 French graves. It was intimately connected with the French offensive of the autumn of 1915 (the second Battle of Champagne); and the crucifix from Carency Church, where the fighting had been most severe, was kept in a shed by the roadside. It remained open until September, 1918.               CWGC website
