At the heart of the Battle of the Somme, the Museum presents the life of a front-line soldier
Taking part in the Battle of the Somme
In April 1916 your battalion was moved from Ypres in Belgium to the Somme in France.
For months you have trained to take part in a joint British-French attack on the Hun.
With your pals training beside you, you feel confident that you can push the Germans back to Berlin.
Sir Douglas Haig, your general, will be using 750,000 men (27 divisions) against the German front-line (16 divisions).
The battle will begin with an artillery bombardment that will kill most of the German troops (or so you have been told).
