Cardinal Cottage Holidays

Attractions and areas of interest.

The area has a lot of offer holidaymakers.
Close at hand is Minsmere, the RSPB Bird Reserve with hides and reserved places for walking and viewing the wildlife. There is a coastal walk along the heritage coastline from Aldeburgh to Lowestoft. There are many marked footpaths around the villages close to Cardinal Cottage.

Ipswich, Suffolk's county town is 25 miles away for extensive shopping; Woodbridge some 12 miles away has picturesque streets and houses and access to the river Deben. Close by Woodbridge is Sutton Hoo, the new National Trust site for viewing the burial barrows of the Woofings, sixth and seventh century kings of East Anglia.

Aldeburgh, Orford and Southwold are three coastal towns, each with history and fascinating architecture. Aldeburgh festival of the arts is held each year at Snape Maltings Concert hall, and the Maltings complex of converted buildings makes an interesting day out. In Leiston is the Longshop Museum, a must for steam enthusiasts.

Seaside facilities are available at Felixstowe, Aldeburgh, Southwold, Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. The beaches at Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth are large and sandy and have the usual attractions. At Kessingland, near Lowestoft there is a super wildlife park with facilities for walking, children's play area, etc.

There are theatres and cinemas in Aldeburgh, Leiston, Woodbridge and Southwold, as well as in Ipswich and Norwich. Many local festivals take place in the surrounding villages during the year. Full details of all things local, including the East of England Tourist Guidebook, are to be found in the cottage.

There are village shops available within walking distance at Peasenhall.

For those wishing to do family history research in the area, Jan Belton has an extensive library of genealogy and local history books, a microfiche reader and microfiche of the parish registers of Peasenhall, Sibton, Yoxford and Leiston. All are available to be loaned for research and a full inventory of books and research material is available on request. The public record offices are in Ipswich and Lowestoft, (both 25 miles away) Norwich and Bury St. Edmunds (both an hour's drive).

The cottage is available all year round and is ideal for those seeking a glimpse of life in the country.
