STARRY EYED AND LAUGHING: “GOOD LOVE” (CBS)

 NOW UNDER the auspices of Pete Frame, Starry Eyed are one of the ex pub bands still trying to break through after a lot of initial attention. This track, produced by Dan Loggins, certainly gets closer to the success that’s evaded them so far, than anything they’ve done up until now.

Not an extraordinary record, perhaps, but solid clawing rhythm section and a move away from their Byrds vocals gives it a certain power. Good too, to hear a band like this captured on record as though it was live, with a certain heavy rawness left in it. This is the kind of sound the lovely Kursaal Flyers need to capture on record.
